Sealing granite countertops- Part II

While it is wise to contact professional granite worktop suppliers for the templating and installation services, one can easily do the sealing themselves. Simply follow the steps described here and get your countertop sealed from harsh oil and water spills.

Step1. The first thing you need to do is prepare the countertop at least 24 hours before sealer application by cleaning the surface with the help of some lukewarm water and dish soap or neutral detergent. Wipe the surface dry with a lint-free cloth.

Step2. It is always advised to follow all the precautionary measures while dealing with chemicals. Although it won’t leave any harmful chemicals in its surrounding areas, it would be wise to wear gloves to keep hands safe from direct solvent contact.

Step3. Test the product first in a small area, away from direct visibility. If the sealer leaves any dark residues or discolours the surface, switch over to any different product.

Step4. If you have a sprayer, well and good; if not, use a lint-free cloth to evenly apply the sealer on the entire worktop surface. Remember the rule of moderation and cover up the entire surface along with the corners.

Step5. Let it sit for at least 15-20 min and then apply a second coat if necessary. It is advised to apply the second coat with the help of a cloth, wiping the sealer over the surface for even application.

Step6. After the second layer has also been left for 20 min or so, wipe off any excess sealer and let the counter sit for at least 48 hours to get effective results. Avoid washing or using the counter during such period.
